Dark Roots of the Earth

Start with these components prepared in advance: Mezcal (Sombra (raisin infused, see note)).

Stir the raisin-infused mezcal, Ancho Reyes chile liqueur, Crème de Cacao, and bitters together with ice until well chilled.

Strain the mixture into an Old Fashioned glass over a large ice cube or sphere.

Garnish with an expressed twist of orange peel, releasing its aromatic oils over the drink before placing it in the glass.
