Use 2:1 rich simple syrup for its listed portion.

Chill a cocktail coupe in advance to ensure it's ready for serving.

Prepare an orange zest twist for garnish, setting it aside until needed.

In a shaker, combine the cognac, Cointreau, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and orange juice. If desired, add the optional sugar syrup.

Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously to blend and chill the ingredients.

Fine strain the mixture into the pre-chilled cocktail coupe.

Express the orange zest over the cocktail to release its oils, then place it as a garnish on top.
