Chill a martini glass by filling it with ice water, then set it aside.
Add gin, Aperol, elderflower liqueur, and freshly squeezed lime juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
Vigorously shake the ingredients until well-chilled and combined.
Discard the ice water from the martini glass, and double strain the mixture into the glass.
