Select and pre-chill an Old Fashioned glass.

Prepare a garnish of star anise.

Stir the cognac, mezcal, amaro, Bénédictine liqueur, Angostura Aromatic Bitters, and saline solution with ice until well chilled.

Strain the mixture into the pre-chilled glass filled with ice, preferably using a large cube or chunk of block ice.

Garnish with the prepared star anise, floating it on the surface of the drink.
