For salted caramel syrup, cook 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 teaspoon salt until dark caramel forms and wisps of smoke appear. Carefully add 1/2 cup water, let bubbling subside, swirl to dissolve, cool and strain. Shake all listed cocktail portions with ice and pour unstrained into a double rocks glass.
