Warm a glass mug by adding a small amount of boiling water and set it aside.

Combine the Irish whiskey and simple syrup in a mixing tin.

Nestle the tin inside the warmed mug to gently heat the whiskey mixture.

Discard the water from the mug, then pour in the heated whiskey-syrup mixture.

Top the mixture with boiling water until it reaches about an inch below the rim.

Pour the freshly brewed espresso directly into the mug.

Float the cream on top by gently pouring it over the back of a spoon.
