Chill a Nick & Nora glass in advance to ensure optimal serving temperature.

Prepare a lemon zest twist for garnish and set aside.

Combine the straight rye whiskey, applejack brandy, freshly squeezed lemon juice, rich sugar syrup, chilled water (if not using wet ice), and saline solution or a pinch of salt in a cocktail shaker.
