Place the mezcal, Génépy, freshly squeezed lemon juice, simple syrup, basil leaves, a slice of thinly cut chili pepper, and Angostura aromatic bitters into a cocktail shaker.

Add ice to the shaker and shake vigorously until the mixture is well-chilled.

Strain the cocktail over a large ice cube in an Old Fashioned glass.
